Care & Use Instructions

Thank you for choosing ABOVE BOARD® chopping boards. Our boards are made from FSC®-certified wood fibre — durable, sustainable, and designed for professional kitchens. To get the best performance and extend the life of your board, please follow these care guidelines:

How to Use Your Board

  • Use each colour-coded board for its intended food group (in line with HACCP/UK food safety standards).

  • Suitable for all kitchen knives.

  • Avoid using serrated blades or cleavers with excessive force, which may shorten the board’s lifespan.

  • Boards are heat resistant up to 176°C / 350°F — do not place directly on open flames or hot stovetops.

Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Dishwasher safe: Boards can be cleaned in commercial or domestic dishwashers.

  • Hand wash option: Use warm water and mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry upright.

  • Sanitise using standard kitchen disinfectants if required.

  • Do not soak boards in water for prolonged periods.

  • Light scuffs and marks can be refreshed by gently sanding the board using fine-grit paper (180–240 grit; up to 320 for a smoother finish). Because our boards can be cared for like natural timber, this simple maintenance helps prolong their life and keeps them looking new.

Storage

  • Store boards in a clean, dry area.

  • Use board racks to maintain hygiene separation and airflow.

  • Keep away from direct heat sources (radiators, ovens).

Do Not

  • Do not use boards as serving trays for hot pans.

  • Do not cut directly on unstable or uneven surfaces.

  • Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive scourers — this may damage the surface.

  • Do not leave boards in standing water or outdoors.

End of Life

  • ABOVE BOARD® products are not currently recyclable via household waste streams.

  • Please return your board through our BoardCycle Scheme for recycling or responsible disposal and receive a discount on your next purchase.
